It is above all a decorative object, on which a preliminary instruction in how the astrolabe works can possibly be given. An astrolabe is an astronomical computer used to determine time based on the position of the Sun and the stars. Thanks to it, centuries ago people could find out what time it was. A question that is trivial today was a great challenge in the pre-smartphone era. With it, the timing of phenomena such as sunrises and sunsets could be determined, and it made it possible to determine the positions of stars and directions. It was used to perform many advanced calculations. The astrolabe depicts a 3D sky map on a flat surface. It was also a navigation device. Its history began over 2000 years ago. Over the centuries, knowledge was developed and increasingly complex devices were built. Arab scholars deserve great credit for this. Sources report that thanks to this device, a very accurate map of Baghdad was created in the Middle Ages, for example. It was thanks to them that the astrolabe arrived in Europe in the 12th century. Until around 1650 it was the most widespread astronomical instrument, after which it was replaced by more precise instruments.Gadget at a glance:- European astrolabe keychain- decorative item- handmade- material: brass- dimensions: 4.5 cm x 0.5 cm without chain- gift packaging with insert, shrink-wrapped- great gift for an astronomer, souvenir for an astronomy enthusiast
Product dimensions: 17.5 x 7.5 x 3 cmProduct weight: 0.25 kgMinimum order: 1 pieceStand/display: none
