Atlas XXL Spherical Astrolabe

Atlas XXL Spherical Astrolabe
A spherical astrolabe, also known as an armillary sphere, is a historical astronomical instrument used from ancient times until the 16th century, when it was displaced by more accurate instruments. Astrolabes were used, among other things, to determine the position of celestial bodies above the horizon and to establish one's own position. The astrolabe symbolizes humanity's scientific ambitions and its desire to understand the universe. In their time they adorned royal courts and scholars' homes, taking on highly ornate forms.Atlas bears the celestial vault on his shoulders, in this case an armillary sphere, whose central point is the Earth. The globe is surrounded by rings representing the north and south poles, the equator, the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn, and the zodiac ring (ecliptic). The latter represents the Sun's yearly path through the zodiac constellations. The horizontal, fixed hoop represents the visible horizon, and the vertical one the meridian. The astrolabe is a beautiful, atmospheric decoration for a living room, study or office that highlights the scientific passions of the household. It is an excellent elegant gift for a boss, a father or a university lecturer. It will also capture the hearts of astronomy and science enthusiasts.
